Editorial: “Artificial Flavor” for Apostrophe Reps’ Amplify Magazine

I’m so excited to share this project I created for Amplify Magazine as a member of Apostrophe Reps’ mentorship program for emerging BIPOC photographers! Working with the team at Apostrophe was definitely the highlight of 2021, and it was great to create a project to finish out the program. Check out the full magazine here. I’m so flattered to have been chosen as a mentee and to have gotten to know some really talented peers I might not have connected with otherwise.

Artificial Flavor is a series of images that illustrates in a surreal manner how plastic is a part of how and what we eat. There’s so much plastic in our daily lives that we don’t even recognize it, it just blends in. To be fair, lots of it is not visible to the eye: the average person consumes a credit card-sized amount of microplastics each week. So it’s not just how we eat, it’s what we eat...and drink.
